Lansing Man Charged With Manufacturing of Narcotics, Gets County Cap

On Behalf of | Sep 15, 2015 | Case Results, Drug Charge, Firm News

Recently a 40-year-old Lansing man was faced with 10 to 34 months in prison based on his sentencing guidelines. While on parole, he was charged with delivery or manufacturing of narcotics or cocaine less than 50 grams. With a wife and son at home, he contacted Michigan criminal defense attorney Tiffany DeBruin for legal help. The man was also a habitual 4 and class D offender with three prior drug felonies. His punishable guidelines were increased further. He could serve up to 20 years in prison. DeBruin knew the level of severity for this case was high. She was adamant about getting her client substance abuse counseling rather than more incarceration.

DeBruin fought hard on behalf of her client. Through advocacy at sentencing and a strong argument for counseling, she knew they would see better results and ultimately a better verdict. With this being true, the man received the county cap – only a 12 month sentence. Considering he was on parole during his occurrence, this was an almost unheard of outcome. His sentence widely missed the 20-year maximum that was expected.

The outcome of an individual case depends on a variety of factors unique to that case. Case results do not guarantee or predict a similar result in any similar or future case.
