Tiffany DeBruin, of DeBruin Law, PLLC, has been appointed to the Michigan Community Corrections Board. In March, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer appointed DeBruin for a four-year term.
The Office of Community Corrections is committed to promoting both the public safety and the welfare of incarcerated people. Through the use of evidence-based services and programs, it seeks to better the lives of people who are under community supervision, with the goal of reducing the likelihood that they will commit further offenses. The ultimate goals are to reduce crime as well as the prison population.
The Community Corrections Board, which oversees the office, is made up of 14 people, each of whom represents a different segment of society, including judges, prosecuting attorneys, city governments, police and the general public. On the board, DeBruin represents criminal defense attorneys.
In an internet post, DeBruin described her appointment as an “incredible honor.” She said she is committed to helping people in the corrections system to rehabilitate their lives and to strengthening their communities.
Almost 20 years of experience
DeBruin is the founder and sole practitioner of DeBruin Law, PLLC, in East Lansing, Michigan. After graduating from Malone University, DeBruin earned her law degree in 2006 from Capital University Law School. Earlier in her career, she worked in public interest law with a legal aide group and as a staff attorney for Franklin County Children Services.
In 2011, DeBruin founded DeBruin Law, PLLC, in order to provide professional representation to people accused of crimes, including OWI, drug crimes, property crimes, juvenile offenses and other criminal defense matters. She prides herself on her compassion and understanding for her clients, many of whom are facing some of the most difficult circumstances of their lives. She also helps clients with divorce, child custody and other family law matters, as well as guardianship and adoption.
