In 2015, a Michigan mother of two young boys moved to South Carolina to escape domestic violence at the hands of their father. The father eventually filed a motion in 2018 for her to appear and show cause as to why she was not complying with court-ordered visitation. This exposed the mother to a possible contempt of court charge, which led her to retain attorney DeBruin. To resolve the issue and provide protection for her client and her children, attorney DeBruin filed a motion to change the mother’s domicile. After a three-day hearing, the motion was granted, allowing her client and her boys to continue the lives they built in South Carolina.
The outcome of an individual case depends on a variety of factors unique to that case. Case results do not guarantee or predict a similar result in any similar or future case.
