17-Year-Old’s First Degree Home Invasion Charge Reduced to a Misdemeanor

On Behalf of | Aug 23, 2017 | Case Results, Criminal Defense, Firm News

When a 17-year-old was faced with a 20-year felony for breaking and entering after he and a couple of friends entered a house and walked out with some of the owner’s things, attorney Tiffany DeBruin worked hard so this mistake did not ruin the young man’s life.

Attorney DeBruin negotiated with the prosecutor and successfully arranged to have her client’s charge reduced to a misdemeanor and a one-year sentence of probation under Michigan’s Holmes Youthful Trainee Act (HYTA). This will allow her client the chance to complete the terms of probation, and if he’s successful his conviction will not be entered onto his public record, effectively giving him a chance at a clean record.

The outcome of an individual case depends on a variety of factors unique to that case. Case results do not guarantee or predict a similar result in any similar or future case.
